Alfredo de Curtis

'My work is created using a unique and innovative application, mixing sand with oil-based paints. The use of softly-defined edges and muted jewel tones evoke the frescos of Pompeian antiquity.

I aim to create a semblance of mystery and intrigue in my paintings, employing opaque meridians of light and shadow and the grainy mirage of textured surfaces to create a three-dimensional quality.'

A quiet solitude slumbers over the paintings of Alfredo de Curtis. There is a depth and intelligent thought behind the haunting figures, places and inanimate objects - an almost perfect melting point of past and future. Present is transitory. His jewel-like works are stunning in their simplicity and subtlety while captivating the viewer with an evocative essence of contemplation.
